The Center for Southeastern Tropical Advanced Remote Sensing is a ground station that receives imagery data from a variety of remote sensing satellites. CSTARS is owned and operated by the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, a college within the University of Miami.
Digital mapping is the process by which a collection of data is compiled and formatted into a virtual image. The primary function of this technology is to produce maps that give accurate representations of a particular area, detailing major road arteries and other points of interest. The technology also allows the calculation of distances from one place to another. Although digital mapping can be found in a variety of computer applications the main use of these maps is with the Global Positioning System, or GPS satellite network, used in standard automotive navigation systems.

Eye2eye Software Ltd is a UK educational software publisher, which has systematically photographed Britain in 360 degree panoramas and stills, publishing the collection as the school resource and home reference Eye2eye Britain. Using a portable panoramic camera developed by themselves they have followed a points of interest approach--taking panoramas on mountains, beaches, inside parliaments, factories, heritage sites, etc. rather than a street based approach like Google street view.
The Florida Environmental Research Institute is a 5013 not-for-profit, research and education organization located in Tampa, Florida. Founded in 1998, FERI’s initial client was the Department of Defense Office of Naval Research. It was ONRs funding that allowed for the development of the tools to rapidly assess the coastal ocean environment utilizing cutting edge environmental mapping and monitoring techniques, specifically hyperspectral remote sensing. Currently, FERI is responsible for a wide range of tasks spanning from the construction and aerial deployment of several digital sensor systems to the analysis of the data generated by these systems to produce informative and functional maps of U.S. coastal regions. In 2003 the institute received part of a $4.2 million National Science Foundation grant for a study of pollution in the Hudson River. In the Fall of 2006, FERI spun off a for profit project focused on the development of an online mapping portal called WeoGeo.
A geofence is a virtual perimeter for a real-world geographic area. A geo-fence could be dynamically generated - as in a radius around a point location, or a geo-fence can be a predefined set of boundaries. The use of a geofence is called geofencing, and one example of usage involves a location-aware device of a location-based service LBS user entering or exiting a geo-fence. This activity could trigger an alert to the devices user as well as messaging to the geo-fence operator. This info, which could contain the location of the device, could be sent to a mobile telephone or an email account.
